What is Accutane®?
Accutane®, or Isotretinoin, is an oral prescription drug derivative of Vitamin A used to treat severe acne.
Isotretinoin causes severe side effects, including:
- severe dryness (including dryness of lips and moth)
- swelling of eyelids
- upset stomach, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting
- hair thinning
- vision changes
- ringing ears, hearing loss
- chest pain
- trouble breathing
- low back pain
- abnormal menses
- birth defects
- far more, but you get the point
After losing a $33 million law suit (damages awarded to people with bowel disease caused by the drug), the patent-holder for Accutane® stopped selling the product under this brand name. However, isotretinoin is still prescribed.
